Blog 5 What have you learned about the processes of designing a sound research study in class? In many ways, the process of writing the research proposal was not too different from how I conceived my Master's thesis or how I approached writing proposals for Department of Labor-Employment and Training Administration grants. The key differences in the writing was that this was a method design specific to the PTW profession, which was a bit different than how Geographers approach a similar type of study...and yet, they were more alike than not. The structural approach was interesting, and having the lit review done first definitely allowed me to better conceptualize what it was I wanted to do for the usability study I proposed. What have these processes taught you about your future roles as a technical and professional communicator? As mentioned before, this is not too dissimilar from what I have done in the past. However, after several years being unemployed after leaving ...

After reviewing the items marked on my returned Lit Review and the comment sheet attached, there are a few elements that I will be specifically addressing while polishing up my Research Proposal (which is 90% done). 1. I detest MLA format, but since it is the style used in English departments and PTW, I will (obviously) fix those errors. Part of the reason I dislike it so much is that I am thoroughly practiced in the in-text and Works Cited citation style used in Geography, which - in my opinion, which when combined with $2 will get a cup of gas station drip coffee - looks more professional and also comes more naturally. These are small, but numerous, dings to what I submitted, and they really shouldn't take long to fix. 2. Another formatting item I got zapped for was also related to formatting, specifically tabbing indents over to 1/4". Also not a problem to fix. 3. One thing that I got zapped for, and that I am going to be stubborn about fixing, was a rhetorical style choice...

The research gap identified in my literature review is multifold rather than singular. My topic of research is how to use psychographic analytics to develop reader personae representative of a genre audience by using generative AI platforms like ChatGPT. Currently, the bulk of the PTW research I have reviewed shows multiple gaps. First, there is a surprising (sort of) lack of discussion defining genre fiction; initial research suggests that PTW researchers haven't really considered fiction writing professional enough. Second, almost every piece of literature I looked at for psychographics talks about using market segmentation studies as a way to sell a product AFTER it has been developed; there really aren't many articles that I came across that suggested psychographics could be developed as a pre-writing tool to heighten the successful design of fiction plots, themes, and characters to appeal to a target audience. Likewise, nearly everything I looked at for personae was also m...

Blog Post 2 I am not pleased. I have specific ideas of what I want to do for my literature review. Unfortunately, I can find pretty much zero peer reviewed articles for any variation of what I want to do, regardless of which platform I use. Specifically, these are my updated ideas for a literature review: 1. Using Psychographics to Generate Ideal Reader Personas for Fiction Writers 2. Using Psychographics to Analyze Market Trends in Speculative Fiction 3. Using Generative AI in Refining Plot Narratives in Speculative Fiction 4. Using Generative AI to Develop Ideal Reader Personas I have a few other variations on the theme, which is wholly applicable to rhetoric. No matter what keyword I use, however, I am getting no reasonable results that align with the topic...or, at least, none that would make any sense, since they're all over the map on what psychographics would be used for in designing a written product. Of the articles I have managed to find, these are the closest I have bee...

Literature Review Topic Interests I am considering one of three potential topics for the Literature Review assignment. 1. The first possible topic would be an update for the thesis I completed back in 2012, titled "A Geographic Analysis of Virtual Worlds: Place, Identity, and Society, Using Second Life as a Model." The interesting thing about potentially doing this topic would be revisiting the literature after a decade of technological advancements. What would really be interesting about it would be to use the updated research as the basis of a Doctoral dissertation...provided I could ever find a doctorate in Geography program that was local to wherever I am living. When I did the original thesis, there was very little in my field on the topic. 2. The second topic I am considering relates to developing a Credit for Prior Learning/Prior Learning Assessment Handbook specifically targeted to community colleges and universities. Conceptually, there is significant journal resourc...
